Can you blame me if I want to give myself something to look forward to at the end of this year? Do yourself a favor, get a bottle of tequila, some pears and a big jar.
Don’t bother thinking ‘oh this would make a great gift for so and so…’ or ‘fulanita y zutanina’ in Spanish. This is a gift for you.

Pear Infused Tequlla
Ingredients
- 1 lb ripe pears
- 1 piloncillo cone, approx. 150 g (see substitution note below)
- 3 star anise seeds -1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
- 750 ml bottle of tequila, preferably reposado or añejo
Directions
Wash pears well. Core and cut into quarters. Place all ingredients in a 1/2 gallon jar. Cover, and give a good shake to combine.
Place in a dark cupboard and forget about it for a month or two. Taste occasionally. Put it back and forget about it some more. Age for up to 3 months.
Strain out fruit and spices. Bottle and keep refrigerated.
Substitution notes: If piloncillo is unavailable, use 1 cup packed brown sugar and 1 tablespoon unsulphured molasses.
How do you drink it once it is done? Suggestions?

Hello Liz, honestly I would just drink it up, well chilled. You could also do an adapted old fashioned with it, with cinnamon bitters, orange slice or peel over ice.
